Day 028

This sketch was started on my Nintendo DS and the battery died while I was adding the highlights. Since I couldn't find my charger, I finished it up on my tablet.

Day 027

Lots of painting projects with deadlines next week. Taking a break from the gouache and whipping up a quick 15 minute digital study.

Day 026

Accidentally knocked over my mug....luckily I finished drinking my coffee beforehand. So I thought I'd make a still life out of it.

Day 024

Visited some friends for lunch. It was convenient they had a bowl of apples I could draw from :)

Day 023

The rain took a break today! So I decided to get some fresh air and sketched on my NDS at a park bench.

Day 022

Another quick lunch break sketch on the NDS.

Day 021

This one was an imaginary sketch. I just felt like painting instead of experimenting with the gradient tool. That's the great thing about this project...everyday is spontaneous. The whole point is to create and commit (just 324 days left - Yikes!)

Day 020

That's getting closer to what I mentioned yesterday. Being able to use gradients in solid shapes. I'll try to push it more tomorrow.

Day 019

Tried something new with solid and gradient filled shapes. This gives me a few new ideas for future digital sketches, although it's a much slower process compared to sketching with a tablet or mouse.

Day 018

Alomost forgot to upload this quick sketch during lunch. It has really been convenient drawing on the NDS, but I'm starting to miss using my gouache and watercolors.

Day 013

(digital still life)

Staying indoors is the only option today. Don't be fooled by the sunshine because it's still raining! Last night was surprisingly warm outside (upper 50's) but still extra windy causing the windows to slightly rattle. Perfect weather if you like watching Paranormal State or Psychic Kids :)

Day 012

Another digital painting from the dome. I haven't drawn a Granny Smith Apple in awhile. Actually I'm running low on apples, might have to hit the grocery store soon, but the recent weather has been bad. Consistent rain last night and high winds this morning. So expect to see more digital paintings this week. Now....if I could just find my Nintendo DS? That way I can paint in my car or on my couch. That'll be a nice change from being in front of the work station all day/all night.

Day 011

(digital painting using a mouse)

Off the top of my head, I imagined an apple in front of a bush in day light. I tried to mimic a macro effect normally captured with a camera, where the main subject is in focus and the background blurred. This was almost scrapped because it was looking a bit like a strawberry, lol.

Over the weekend, I had rearranged my desk in order to crank out 2 new miniature paintings for a cafe. I didn't feel like searching for my tablet....so I used my good ole' mouse.

Day 010

(Digital painting on tablet)

I thought this would turn out just fine....but drawing the bottom of this particular apple was quite difficult!!! Not liking the end results, so hopefully I'll have a better day tomorrow.

Day 009

(Digital painting on tablet)

Cutting it close tonight....I got caught up in 2 new paintings I almost forgot my daily apple drawing! This one was done on my Wacom tablet. I think I'll take a crack at another digital sketch tomorrow, but earlier in the day :)

Day 008

I thought of having a little fun by taking a quick bite out of my apple just before painting. The main reason was....I was hungry. And secondly, I knew the inside of the apple would turn brown. Another addition to the miniature collection :)

Day 007

It was really foggy and a lot colder this morning. So I kept this short and sweet....then retreated to the car. I miss using my gouache paints, I'll most likely paint indoors tomorrow.

Day 006

Same type of apple as yesterday...but not the same apple as yesterday! I sware, I randomly picked it out the fruit bowl after waking up. This thumbnail was done after a bowl of cereal and some cartoons this morning. Wait, I sound like I'm 10 years old again?! I knew I had a busy schedule ahead of me and anticipated having little energy to draw another apple tonight. If you don't see an updated post tonight....sorry - Better post tomorrow!

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Day 005

How bout a quote of the day to go along with the apple of the day? Quick marker sketch during lunch break. It's surprisingly sunny with a few clouds, but still too cold outside to sketch. This was from the comforts of my car :)

Day 004

Unpacked the bin of pastels after dinner. The last time opened this bin was back in art school (Seattle). I've forgotten how fun they are to use.....messy, but FUN!

It's been pretty gloomy outside, so here's another indoor still life at the dining table. A quick watercolor sketch before heading out today. Looks a bit like a persimmon...
